PRESS RELEASE

From the Executive Director of the Rio Rapids Northern Soccer Club of Santa Fe concerning club activities

Hello Rio Rapids Northern Soccer Club families,

We wish everyone good health and safety during these uncertain times. Just like our families, RRNSC has felt the constrictions and financial impact that the COVID-19 epidemic. Unlike other entities, RRNSC is a non-profit organization and we will more than likely feel the impact of this epidemic for years to come as donations are currently being directed towards COVID-19-related causes.

No matter what happens, our focus will remain with youth soccer and our families. As we are all adapting to our new “normal” of working from home and homeschooling our children because the public schools are closed for the school year, we have to also have a focus on what lies ahead after being sequestered at home.

Fortunately for the State of New Mexico, our Governor, Michelle Lujan-Grisham, acted swiftly and hopeful our state does not see the same challenges that other states are seeing right now.

As of right now, we will not be issuing refunds or credits until we know the fate of our programs for the Spring. We are staying attentive to all developments and looking into all avenues for support during this difficult time.

We wanted to provide an update for both our Development Program and Select/Pre-Comp Programs.

Development Program:

We will do our best to have a season. The kids need the activity once all of this confusion is over. It may be a spring/summer season. The state’s playing year ends August 1.

We are very fortunate that our governor had acted early and hopefully our state doesn't follow the same narrative as NY and other states.

We will proceed once it is safe with precautions.

We have been trying to discuss contracts with vendors to lighten the club's financial liabilities as it pertains to our spring season.

With that said, we are hopeful to see a Spring season, even if it extends into the Summer.

Select/Pre-Comp Programs:

Duke City Soccer League hopes to continue their season once the Governor lifts the ban. The plan is to begin games one week after we are giving the all-clear. All tournaments in Bernalillo have been canceled in May which gives DCSL access to the tournament complex all May.

We want to support our membership the best we can during this difficult time. Please let us know if you have a local business that we can let everyone know about. We will share your information. Let us know about your offerings and we will share that information with our membership.

We need to help and support each other during these difficult times. We are all in this together. Please stay healthy and safe.

Thank you,

-Marco Ortiz

Northern New Mexico Soccer Association has been the leading youth soccer league in Santa Fe for over 40 years. In February 2015, we partnered with the Rio Rapids Soccer Club in Albuquerque to become part of the MLS Colorado Rapids organization. We offer 5 different programs for boys and girls aged U4 - U19:

  • Development Program: In the fall and the spring we have leagues for U4 - U 15 players who want to learn and be part of the 'beautiful game.

  • Academy Program: For boys and girls U7/8 - U12 who want more of a challenge and to build their skills in preparation for joining the Select Program, we offer an advanced Academy program.

  • Select Program: This program is for our travel teams aged U11 - U19 who compete in Albuquerque's Duke City League in the fall and spring.

  • Northern Alliance Program: We partner with Los Alamos and Taos soccer leagues to offer boys and girls between U10 and U14, a more competitive option than simply the Development Program.   All U9 and up Development teams participate in the Northern Alliance Program.
