Executive Director - Nic Smith
As part time Executive Director of Northern Soccer Nic’s focus is on implementing Northern’ s strategic plan to expand the club’s role and impact in the community – and to continue to create opportunities for people of all ages to play and enjoy the ‘beautiful game’ of soccer.
Nic’s passion for the ‘beautiful game’ stems from growing up in England and playing soccer, (or Association Football as it is known as there!), on muddy fields in pouring rain – and going to games to watch legendary players. He played at the Club, High School, and County levels, and had try out’s for a number of professional teams, including; Chelsea, Aldershot and Crystal Palace. At the age of 16 on a training field at Crystal Palace he realized that he was not going to make a living from soccer and decided to get an education! He captained his College team at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, and continued to play after college at the club level in the Anglian Combination League for Mundham & Seething and
finally Reepham Town FC. When he broke his leg for the second time at 28 he decided that it may be time to ‘hang up his boots’.
Nic moved to Santa Fe in 1992 and rediscovered his passion for soccer and began playing in the Santa Fe Adult Soccer League – and his reward is
that, in addition to being Executive Director at Northern, he is also President of the adult league. In his career role Nic is a management consultant and President of the Piñon Group. He specializes in accelerating his client’s business performance by enhancing the effectiveness of their people. His consulting work includes; helping management teams identify and address performance issues; facilitating business planning sessions; designing and delivering leadership development programs; leading global and remote teams and coaching executives. Finally, he is an international speaker and has delivered keynote speeches in the US, Europe and Asia. He obtained his BA degree from the University of East Anglia in England and holds a post-graduate Diploma in Management Studies from Norwich College, also in England.
